Sometimes We Never Learn

"And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer. Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.

For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant." - Psalm 78:35-37 KJV

If you take the time to read all of Psalms 78, you will see an easy-to-read summary of the roller coaster relationship the children of Israel had with Jehovah God. Despite the prayers that were answered and miracles that were performed, they somehow always ended up back in sin, forgetting all that He had done for them. This ultimately resulted in their forty-year exile in the wilderness and in many from the generation who had treated their Lord so wickedly never seeing the Promised Land altogether. What a blessing those folks missed!

Oh, how true this is in our everyday lives as Christians. Too often we admittedly trust Jesus Christ with our soul salvation and yet don’t have the faith to trust Him to provide for unplanned expenses or to deliver us from an unwanted storm. How fickle we are in our walk with our Savior; especially when we draw away from the things of God and further into this wicked world. This is why it is so important, during our daily time of prayer and Bible study, to reflect back on all that God has done in our lives. Relive the moments of delivery from seemingly insurmountable circumstances. Recount all the times God, in his perfect timing and provision, had everything that was needed for us at the very moment the need arose. Did we face difficulties? Of course, we did. However, the same God who saw us through the roughest past will see us through the direst of future events. God has proven Himself time and time again. Isn’t it time we finally trust Him with our lives?
